FAQ
Who is “Marty”?
The “Marty” of Marty’s Barn Cellar refers to Martin Grimm, of Utica. Marty owned Marty’s Jungle in Utica which sold unfinished wood furniture. His daughter, Carolyn, and her husband, Dennis, opened Marty’s Barn Cellar in Elbridge, NY in 1973 with some help from her dad. The store not only sold unfinished furniture, but was also a gift shop.
What kind of furniture do we sell?
We offer quality American-made, real wood furniture at affordable prices. We do not carry particle board or “engineered wood," and we also do not offer any upholstered furniture or recliners at this time.
Do you carry mattresses?
Yes! We are the exclusive CNY retailer of Sleeptone mattresses and bedding collection, also American-made! Our showroom contains an assortment of Sleeptone models to choose from. Unfortunately, we are unable to facilitate disposal of old mattresses.
Do we offer a delivery service?
Yes! We service all local deliveries with our company van. Josh and/or James will deliver your furniture, as scheduled. We kindly ask that you have adequate help on-site at time of delivery.
How far do we deliver?
With Marty's Barn Cellar recently celebrating our 50th Anniversary, we provide service to families across CNY from Buffalo to Albany -- and, sometimes, beyond! We have recently expanded our services to include "White Glove Delivery" across states. If you're looking for quality furniture and are a United States resident, give us a call and let's see if we can serve your need!
Do you only carry unfinished furniture?
Given our history of delivering quality furniture to CNY homes across generations, we often have customers return after 10-plus years amazed to discover just how much has changed! And yes, we still carry unfinished furniture. However, much of our showroom floor is now dedicated to beautiful, customizable Amish products. Each vendor offers their own line of stain and paint colors. We have swatches in store for each supplier and encourage you to come in to pick your color(s), especially if the piece needs to match a room or other furniture in your home. For example -- if you would like a hutch to match your dining room table, bring in a table leaf!
Can you buy pieces off the showroom floor?
Certainly -- if we have a piece on the floor that fits your space and aesthetic, please feel welcome to purchase it. Currently, we're focused on moving in-stock models, as we're excited to bring in new product lines in 2026. Stop by our location in Elbridge for details, or follow us on Instagram and Facebook for updates!
What Do we offer for Amish-made stools?
Most any of the Amish-made chairs you see on our website or in store can come 24” or 30” high, countertop- and bar-height, respectively.
Where is everything manufactured?
Most of our companies manufacture, finish, and ship from Pennsylvania, Ohio, and North Carolina.
What are our current lead times for ordering pieces?
It depends on the supplier and whether or not the piece is finished. Unfinished items always arrive quicker, many of them within 4-6 weeks. At this time, our Amish bedroom lines are roughly 5 months and Amish dining and occasional are about 3-5 months out. Finished pieces from other companies also range in from 12-16 weeks.
I want to finish the piece myself. Do you carry stains and paints in store?
Yes! We carry General Finishes stains and milk paint. We have been a retailer for General Finishes for a number of years and know they work great on all products we sell. James is our finish expert and can answer any finish question you have.
If I buy an unfinished piece off the floor, can a Marty's employee finish it?
No, we do not handle finishing in-house. Every piece can be ordered finished with your choice of color, or there are some finishing and refinishing services in the area. We are not affiliated with these shops.
Are there fabric options for chairs, stools, benches, etc.?
Yes! Each supplier offers a range of fabric options for their seats.
